I would like to say for the record that I am not a fraudster nor do I ever intend to become one. I do however feel that my right to protect my identity superscedes any banking institutions self labeled policies to deter fraud.
To those institutions I give you this finger instead.
Over the past ten years there has been a silent, but increasing trend in the practice of requiring non-members of particular banks to provide finger prints when cashing checks. The Texas Bankers Association developed the policy to deter fraud, but today it is unclear if it has been effective enough to continue the practice. Of course big banks like B.O.A. and Citizens will tell you that it's their policy and that there is nothing you can do except open an account with them. Fuck all that. I'm in America right? So my rights are to protect myself and my family first. I ask politely each time to see this policy in writing and guess what, I have yet to see it. My first clue that this is the wrong way to garner members is this: Never treat someone you don't know like a criminal if you don't have to. What is it that says "A bank has the right to act as a resource for catching criminals in the first place. It is a bank not the FBI or the CIA or even the local police. All of which have my identification on record as I am a law abiding citizen and have the right to bear arms. Massachusetts is looking into this issue as a violation of certain civil rights, but not acting on it in any kind of meaningful way. Check out this statement on the subject submitted by the ACLU back in 2008. Two years later and we still have to put up with big business bullying private citizens.
I will wrap up this rant with a statement of my own "Don't Tread on ME!" I may not be very big in the world, but piss me off enough and I'll find all the help I can to break your backs.
