There are many tablets out on the market and there are many more coming out. I am going to talk about the most popular ones out and coming soon. I am only going to be referring to the WI-FI only ones. I don’t think many people nor would I every pay my cell provider anymore money just to use it on the go. You can very easily jailbreak your Iphone or Android phone and tether for free but that is another topic in itself. For the people who don’t know what a tablet is, it is basically a handheld touchscreen computer that will allow you to surf the web and play games. Here is a table I made up of the current popular tablets and its specifications.
Its hard to read so click on it to make it bigger to follow along. Anything on there that I have a question mark next to the info has not been released and I educatamagically guessed the battery hours and price. All of these devices should be able to be used for Ebooks as well. Now lagging behind on the specs is the Apple’s Ipad but as we all know that was the first one out and Apple is getting set to revise that lineup in the upcoming months.
They all vary with different specs but some are very similar. Dual core means it has two processors cores that run as one and basically means its most likely a lot better at multitasking than a single core. More RAM means you can have more programs/apps open at once.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab has the best rear facing camera and the BlackBerry Playbook has the best front facing camera for video conferencing. The Dell Inspiron Duo is a dark horse in this competition. It is never mentioned in the tablet wars at all and as far as I am concerned it should be. It has up to 320GB space and has one of the fastest processors on that list. Best of all its only around $550. It can be used as a tablet and can also transform into a nice looking laptop with a full keyboard. None of them have that. Pic below shows it.
So when I am deciding which one to buy I go by price to best value of course. Dell Inspiron Duo beats all of those out and it runs nice since I have physically used one before. Another determining factor for me is the Operating System. Android has many apps and of course we all know how many apps Apple has. Apple Ipad 2 or whatever you want to call the second generation probably will have a front facing camera on it and most likely be a dual core processor so it can compete better. Apple has the Itunes and all of the tv apps. Now the Dell Inspiron Duo and the HP Slate run Windows 7 which we all are very familiar with Microsoft Windows. You want to watch a tv show you just go to the website like you normally do on a computer and it supports Flash. You don’t need a facebook app because you just load Google Chrome or Internet Explorer and go to the real website.
In conclusion the best value for a tablet is the Dell Inspiron Duo which is available now. The Apple’s Ipad is also a great product which if you don’t mind spending more, that is a wise choice too but I would wait until they refresh the lineup and get the Ipad 2.
