Google, You Are Doing It Wrong

For people who know me they know I like to read everything and own as much electronics as I can possibly have.  In that I have noticed some correlations in the technology market.  One thing I notice, is Google tends to do things as I like to say "half-assed."  Google loves to do no-evil and don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of them.  They have many successes but the things that they do fail at have similar reasons that I notice.  They like to get their hands into everything and there is nothing wrong with that but just make sure you have a great gameplan so it will be successful.  That is where I get my point of saying don't do things half assed.  In the cutthroat business world where you are constantly competing with Facebook, Apple, Microsoft, etc. you gotta do things the best way possible to succeed.

My first thing I noticed is Google TV.  This is a great idea and it is out on the market today.  It allows users to surf the web and run apps on your tv.  It has been out for a bit of time now.  In fact a few years, yet it has failed to make it big.  Have you guys even heard about it??  My main reason of seeing it fail is because of poor adoption.  I could be wrong here but I believe it is only on Sony TV's and a few others.  Samsung has their own brand that they made themselves.  In order for this to succeed you need to either market the hell out of this to entice customers to buy.  Google is banking on that if they put it out then other tv companies will adopt it.  As you all can tell, this is not happening.  I have yet to hear from anyone that I know that they have Google TV and love it.  Yes I know this is going to be slow going and people don't buy tvs every year.  They certainly aren't going to just rush out and buy a new tv just so they can have google tv.  All I can say is I do know that there is much chatter about Apple TV device and I do know people who have confirmed they want to rush out and buy it once its available.  Apple is very successful because they don't rush a product out and expect people to jump on the bandwagon, they get them all signed up first!

Another example that I can think of is a chip called NFC.  With this little chip it is put in the batteries or in the cellphone itself and will let you pay for your items in a store or online.  Google has adopted this with an app called Google Wallet.  I believe this only works for mastercard right now and online at some places.  Maybe I am missing something here but I have never seen a single store where you can use this??   I know this isn't all Google's doing but my point is why was this only put out and only works for Mastercard and a few places??  You need Visa in on this in order for it to survive.  You need Target, Walmart and grocery stores in on this. Visa has talked about the technology and I have read they plan on adopting so hopefully this will become more mainstream in many of the smartphones!

I hope you all liked my rant.  It is merely my opinion and just my two cents.  Could some of the things mention become a huge success?? Yes but as of today, they are not.  I use an Android tablet with Ice Cream Sandwich and I have the new Ipad.  I have an Iphone 4S and I know many people that use Android phones.  I don't hate Google at all.  In fact I love google Chrome browser.  I could argue that their Chrome OS the operating system on the laptops is failing miserably too.  Their own phone that they released the Nexus(the first nexus that came out 2 years ago) failed miserably because they didn't have all the top three carriers on board.  Now they bought Motorala Mobility for the patents and maybe are coming out with their own phone.  Just sit back Google and be patient and do it right without rushing it out to the world.  You will not win in the market that way.  Let me know your thoughts folks.

  1. Few things I must point out City Boy....Google Wallet is now able to link to any of your credit cards. It also is usable in more places than you think, (CVS, Cumberland Farms, Sunoco stations) but it definitely is far from widespread and surely needs more adoption by merchants. Nexus failed miserably?? I think not.

  2. I am not referring to the Nexus 7, I am referring to the phone they released a few years ago that worked on the carriers but pretty much was done after 6 months due to lack of sales.
